Mrs. Catherine A. Corzatt, 93, of Stronghurst, IL, passed away at 6:25 AM Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington, IA.
She was born June 1, 1921 in Burlington, IA, the daughter of Lyman and Esther Curry Ross. She was the oldest of five children. On April 18, 1942 she married Kenneth S. Corzatt in Raritan, IL. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2014.
She and her husband lived on the family farm northeast of Stronghurst until moving into town when their son took over operation of the farm. Catherine earned her B.S. Degree from Monmouth College. She taught kindergarten for the Stronghurst Community School District from 1966 until retiring in 1994. She served as a volunteer at the nursing homes in Stronghurst and Roseville, IL, and for a time served as a state ombudsman representing nursing home patients. She was a member of the R.S.V.P., the D.A.R., Henderson County Retired Teachers Association and the Biggsville, IL United Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Bill) Phillips of Nevada, IA and Cheryl (Les) Austin of Owosso, MI; one son, Charles (Roxanne) Corzatt of Stronghurst; four grandchildren, Channon Rider, Crystal Rider, Erica Lahring-McQuerrey and Eric Austin; three great-grandchildren, Jake and Chloe Lahring and Wyatt Rider and two sisters, Jane Duncan of Alta, IA and Mary Siegel of Longview, WA.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Charlene Tidwell; one step-grandson, Brandon Phillips; one brother, William Ross and one sister, Margaret Schar.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Raritan Cemetery. Friends may call at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst anytime Monday between 3:00 and 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Great River Hospice.
