Mr. Carl H. Welborn 86 of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Friday, December 11, 2009 at 8:29 A.M. at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.
He was born in Durham, Illinois on March 11, 1923 the son of Paul C. and Myrtle Carlson Welborn. On December 31, 1954 he married Phyllis Darlene Thompson in Macomb, Illinois.
Mr. Welborn was a First Sergeant in the US Army in World War II. He was a member of Darbys Rangers of the First Ranger Battalion. He took part in battles in Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. He was a POW for 15 months in northern Germany. He worked for Amoco Pipeline for 18 years and then worked for G. E. for 22 years, retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Darlene, two sons, Ted (Mary) Welborn of High Ridge, Missouri and Paul (Linda) Welborn of Keokuk, Iowa, one daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Love of Lomax, Illinois, 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one sister, Pauline Hedges of rural Pontoosuc, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with James Oliver officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. The family will meet with friends Sunday from noon until time of services at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Dallas City First Christian Church or the Lomax Ambulance Service.
