Carl Richard Shipman, 82, of Blandinsville, IL went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 9:20 a.m. The Elms Nursing Home in Macomb, IL.
Carl was born September 22, 1936, to Cecil & Margie Shipman at their home north of Webster, IL by Doc Kelly. He married Janet Thompson on May 5, 1963 at the 1 st Baptist Church in Blandinsville, IL. Carl was a veteran of the US Army. He was a night-shift foreman at NTN Bower for over 30 years. Carl was well known as an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed life and had several hobbies including gardening, hunting and fishing with his sons and brothers, playing cards, camping with family and friends, and singing karaoke. He enjoyed all very much.
Carl is survived by his wife, Janet Shipman of Blandinsville, IL, two sons, Daniel (Nicole) Shipman, of Blandinsville, IL; Darren (Heather) Shipman of Gonzales, LA, one daughter, Lucinda Johnson (Don Carey) of Macomb, IL, 7 grandchildren: Nathan (Lacey) Shipman, Anthony Shipman, Nicholas Shipman, Lucas Shipman, Allyssa Johnson (Joe Gallagher), Alex Johnson (Heather Gonterman) and Ian Shipman and 4 great-grandchildren: Jaylee, Hope, Aiden and Jackson.
Carl was raised in a big, loving family with 3 brothers and 3 sisters: Mildred (Major) Lewis of Grayslake, IL; Cecil (Iola) Shipman of Ferris, IL; Clifford (Martha Jean) Shipman of Blandinsville, IL; Henry (Sonja) Shipman of Dallas City, IL; Shirley (Paul) Gorrell of Burlington, IA; and Carolyn (Vernon) Reed of Macon, MO. Although too many to mention, Carl also loved all of his nieces and nephews and had many good memories of family reunions and camping with his extended family at Spring Lake Park throughout the years.
Carl's in-laws were his niece Angela Thomason, sister-in-law, Carolyn Strausbaugh and brother's-in-law Larry and Donald Thompson.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Margie, three brothers-in-law's; Marion Lewis, Vernon Reed and Donald Thompson and one sister-in-law, Martha Jean Shipman.
Carl never knew a stranger and couldn't go anywhere without striking up a conversation with someone he knew. He was a friend to all and will be forever missed by his family and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Gordon Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in the Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Banks & Beals. A memorial fund has been established for the First Christian Church Blandinsville or MDH Hospice.
