Billy James Jimmy Russell, 52, of Dallas City, IL passed away at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at his home.

He was born on August 17, 1963 in Bloomfield, IA the son of William Dean and Betty Baxter Russell.

Jimmy was a 1981 graduate of Waco High School, Olds, IA. In high school he was a Drum Major in the band and enjoyed performing in the musicals. He then attended Southeastern Community College where he graduated with an associates degree in accounting. Mr. Russell then earned a degree in Cosmetology from Bill Hills School of Cosmetology. He later worked as an instructor for the school. Jimmy had worked at Ssangs at the mall in Burlington, IA, before currently owning and operating his own shop in Dallas City. He enjoyed wood working, crafts, exercising, antiques, singing karaoke and helping others. He loved animals and especially loved his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his father, William Russell of Sigourney, IA, mother, Betty Wheaton of Dallas City, three brothers, Larry Russell of Dallas City, Danny Russell of Newton, IA and Thomas Russell of Ottumwa, IA, four sisters, Rose Pepple of St. Francisville, MO, Joani Davison of Rockford, IL, Peggy Grothe of Crawfordsville, IA and Michelle Tankey of Richland, IA, several nieces and nephews, including locally, Brandy Atterberg of Dallas City, Maggie Anderson of Dallas City and Jackie Kelley of LaHarpe, IL.

A visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City. Burial will be held at a later date in the Dallas City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the DesMoines County Humane Society and the PAW Animal Shelter, Ft. Madison, IA.
