Betty Gene Link, 98, of LaHarpe, Illinois, passed away at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois.
Betty was born August 12, 1926 in Macomb, Illinois, the daughter of William Henry and Nora Edith (Taylor) Hobby. On September 14, 1946 she married Donald P. "Soup" Link in LaHarpe. He preceded her in death February 7, 1998.
Betty attended Gilead country school east of LaHarpe and later graduated from the Burlington Beauty Academy. For a short time, she operated her own beauty shop in LaHarpe, before working as a nurses aide at the LaHarpe Hospital. She spent the later years of her career as a home health nurse.
Betty enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, baking, attending flea markets and Spoon River Drive. She was a member of the LaHarpe American Legion Auxiliary and attended the LaHarpe Agape Church and later, the LaHarpe Christian Church.
Survivors include four children: Dale (Jennifer) Link of Hubbard, Oregon, Eva Anders of Abilene, Texas, Darrell Link of Lomax and Ella Joy Hirte of Dallas City; six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Brent, Summer, Michael, Natalie and Colin; nine great-grandchildren with one more on the way and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son: Dennis Link; one son-in-law: Terry Anders; one grandson: Dalton Hirte; seven brothers and two sisters.
Banks & Beals Funeral Home of LaHarpe is assisting the family.
Friends and family may sign the book and view from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Septermber 18, 2024 at the LaHarpe Christian Church. No formal visitation will be held.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the LaHarpe Cemetery.
