John E. Berlett

Mr. John E. Berlett 73, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 5:55 A.M. Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL.

He was born August 25, 1934 in LaHarpe, the son of Wiley and Mae Layborn Berlett. On December 24, 1953 he married Elaine Eddington in LaHarpe. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2003.

Mr. Berlett was a graduate of LaHarpe High School. He Farmed all of his life near LaHarpe and was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Jean Rupert of Galesburg, IL , one son Duane Alan Berlett of LaHarpe, 3 grandchildren, Angela Rupert Hale, Brent and Seth Berlett, 4 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Kimberly, Valerie and Connor Hale, 1 brother, Bill Berlet of LaHarpe and 1 step-brother, John Traser of LaHarpe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his step-mother, Anna Berlett, one great-grandchild one sister, Luetta Fife, one step-brother Lyell Traser, two step-sisters Dorothy Roe and Martha Davis.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Larry Menschel officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established for the Hancock County Volunteers for Diabetes or the Grace Bible Church, Dallas City.
