Bennett N. "Benny" Cox

Mr. Bennett N. Benny Cox, 78, of LaHarpe, IL passed away at 12:47 PM Saturday, April 18, 2015 at his home .

He was born February 9, 1937 in Lomax, IL, the son of Fred and Dewey Pitts Cox. On February 14, 1976 he married Georgia Link in Lomax.

Mr. Cox was a graduate of the Terre Haute, Illinois High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Henderson County Highway Department and later for the State of Florida Highway Department. He also worked in maintenance at the LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center. Earlier in life he raced cars. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Shelly (Hilario) Cox Rodriguez of Monmouth, IL, five step-children, Susie Schmidt of Eldrige, IA, Danny Link of LaHarpe, Lila McKeown of Fountain Green, IL, Brenda Peterburs of Morton, IL and Tracy McDowell of LaHarpe, 3 grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Alice Pence of LaHarpe and Bea Tolander of Mt. Pleasant, IA and one brother, Charlie Cox of LaHarpe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gail Cox and one step-son, Mark Link.

A memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 24, 2015 at the LaHarpe Christian Church with Nate McCarter officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in the Crane Cemetery, Lomax, IL. Family and friends are invited to return to the church for a time of fellowship. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe Christian Church. Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe is assisting with arrangements.
