Avis Marie Sexton, 97, of Macomb, Illinois passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 at Wesley Village in Macomb.

Avis was born October 30, 1926 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Floyd and Mable (Branson) Fleming.

Mrs. Sexton was a 1943 graduate of Ipava High School, Ipava, Illinois. She attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. On April 7, 1946 she married William E. "Bill" Sexton in Vermont, Illinois. Later, in 1964, she received her Bachelor's Degree from Western Illinois University. She taught at many local schools throughout her life.

Avis was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb and the Macomb P.E.O. Chapter. She volunteered at Wesley Village and served as the facilities librarian. She and Bill also acted as a host family for several international students attending Western Illinois University.

Survivors include two daughters: Teresa (Gary) Corzatt of LaHarpe and Sharon (John) Jackson of Great Bend, Kansas; five grandchildren: Larissa Jackson, Ian (Carman) Jackson, Robyn (Matt) Nichols, Laura (David) Panto and Kevin (Kimberly) Corzatt and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill.

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the Ipava Cemetery, Ipava, Illinois, with David Panto officiating.
