August Lee Bergmeier
Mr. August Lee Bergmeier, 87, of Macomb, IL, formerly of Dallas City, IL went to be with the Lord ,peacefully, with his family by his side at 3:35 PM Sunday, May 6, 2012 at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
He was born on August 31, 1924 in Nauvoo, IL the son of William and Bessie Congdon Bergmeier. On February 18, 1946 he married Arlene Mae Wilson in Burlington. She preceded him death on July 29, 1997.
Mr. Bergmeier was a veteran of World War II, having served as a Gunner in the US Navy in the South Pacific. He worked at Moulders Friend in Dallas City for over 45 years, retiring as the companys president. For the past 10 years he made his home with his daughter Sharon in Macomb and his daughter, Deanna in Kailua-Kona, HI. While in Hawaii he enjoyed attending Living Stones Church with his extended family and friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the 1st Christian Church in Dallas City where he served as Sunday school teacher and Elder for many years.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Sharon Chaplain of Macomb, Deanna (Link) Vaughn of Kailua-Kona, HI, 1 son Mike Bergmeier of Downers Grove, IL, daughter-in-law, Peggy Geeves of Oregon, IL, 12 grandchildren, Scott (Amy) Sutton of Nauvoo, IL, Darcie and Phil Knisley of Hamilton, IL, Andrea and TJ McConnell of Erie, IL, Heather and Nate Wright of Crystal Lake, IL, Lyndi Vaughn and Megan Vaughn both of Kailua-Kona, HI, CJ, DL, Brittney and Taylor Bergmeier all of Illinois, Alex Geeves of Peoria, IL and Nathan Geeves of Oregon, IL, 5 great-grandchildren, Stefan and Abby Knisley and Owen, Paige and Kate McConnell, 1 sister, Myrtle Leaden of Omaha, NE and 1 brother-in-law, Carroll (Barbara) Wilson of Galesburg, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, 2 sons, Richard in 1976 and Eddie in 1991, 2 brothers, John and Bill and 3 sisters, Elizabeth Davenport, Marie Miller and Marilyn West.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Dallas City with Pastor Will Fowler officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established for the First Christian Church. Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City is in charge of the arrangements.
