She was born October 5, 1913 in Colchester, IL, the daughter of Luther and Rosa Knoedler Martin. In July 1931 she married Russell Whitten. They later divorced. On July 24, 1965 married Myron "Toodles" Shumate in Carthage, IL. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1995.

Alleyne had worked as a cook and house cleaner. She was a member of the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one son, Donald Eugene (Joyce) Whitten of Morton, IL, 10 grandchildren, David Whitten, of Nauvoo, IL, Andrea (Terry) Cale of Dallas City, IL, Brian Whitten of Dayton, OH, Scott Whitten of Keokuk, Iowa, Tammi (Roger) Latham of Lake Worth, FL, Tad (Paige) Whitten of Congerville, IL, Darin (Dana) Whitten of Rochester, IL, Penni Jo (Dr. Thomas) Wilson of Chattanooga, TN, Jimm McCord of Colorado and Kelly (Larry) Welch of Chillicothe, IL and many great and great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron, son Doyle Whitten, daughter Barbara McCord and twin infant daughters, Jane and Joan, three brothers, Virgil, Irvin and Vernon Martin and one sister, Alma Shipman.

Services will be held at 10:00Am Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Mark Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester, IL. Friends may call after 2:00PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church.
