Agnes M. Shaner, 91 of rural Carman, Illinois died at 5:20 a.m. Sunday March 23, 2014 at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. She was born February 18, 1923 near Carman, the daughter of William and Wilamina Swanson Ottoson. On June 29, 1940, she married Charles J. Shaner in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1994.

She attended Maple Grove country school and graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1940. She had lived most of her life on the farm in rural Carman. She was a lifetime member of the Stronghurst Bethel Lutheran Church and active in the Bethel Lutheran Church Womens organization. She loved to cook, crochet, knit, play cards, and took great pride in her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great granddaughter.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Donald) Lefler of rural Carman, IL., one son, Wendell Shaner of rural Stronghurst, IL., five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, Carl Ottoson, one daughter in law, Marian Shaner, and one great granddaughter, Sadie Shaner.

The funeral for Agnes Shaner will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday March 25, 2014 in the Bethel Lutheran Church, in Stronghurst, with Rev. Terry Muller officiating. Burial will be in the Stronghurst Cemetery. No visitation is planned. Memorials have been established for the Stronghurst Ambulance Service and the Family Outreach Community Center in Stronghurst.
