Mr. A. Paul Clampitt, III, age 64, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 4:15 A.M. at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

He was born on September 3, 1946 in Macomb, Illinois, the son of Alex Paul and Dorothy Stambach Clampitt, Jr. On July 15, 1978 he married Nancy L. Pieper in Dallas City.

Mr. Clampitt was a 1964 graduate of the Avon High School, a 1968 graduate of Bradley University in Peoria and received his M.B.A. from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois in 1995. He taught English and Spanish in Elmwood, Rankin and Dallas City. He had also worked at the Abingdon Pottery, was a Millwright Apprentice at Caterpillar in Mossville, Illinois and was a bartender at Ruthies Place in Dallas city for many years. He currently worked for Iowa Workforce Development in Burlington, Iowa.

He was an avid Cardinal fan, but out of respect for his son-in-law, held a special place in his heart for the Cubs. He enjoyed all sports, but his greatest love was riding his Harley-Davidson Electra Glide.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy, one daughter, Denae (Chris) Rutherford of Fort Madison, Iowa, his mother, Dorothy Clampitt of Dallas City, and one brother, L. Rhett Clampitt of Dallas City.

He was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother, David.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Dianne Duncan officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Following the memorial service, in honor of Paul, there will be a parade of motorcycles through Dallas City, ending at Father Schram Hall in Dallas City where a fellowship luncheon will be held.In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory for ABATE, Paws Animal Shelter and the Great River Hospice House.
