Clarence D. Shults
Mr. Clarence Daniel Shults, age 80, of Burnside, IL passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 at 3:05 am at his home. He was born on September 23, 1931 in Leoma, Tennessee, the son of Melvin Daniel and Wealthy Caldonia (Fox) Shults. On May 1, 1982 he married Diana Evelyn Pettit.
Mr. Shults worked for Brown Shoe Factory, Caterpillar in Peoria for 2 years. He then worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for 38 years in research and development. He traveled for McDonnell Douglas to Portugal, Iran, Edwards Air Force Base in California, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Lexington Park Maryland, Dayton, Ohio, Salt Lake City, Utah and Nob Noster, Missouri. He also worked for General Dynamics Aircraft installing Atlas Missile pads in Omaha, and Lincoln, Nebraska, Topeka, Kansas, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. Following his retirement, he drove a school bus for the Carthage Community School District for 8 years.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Pettit Shults, one son, Steven Daniel (Dawn) Shults of Pocahontas, Arkansas, one grandson, Daniel John Shults, also of Pocahontas, and two sisters, Miriam Mystery (Johnny) McCabe, of Augusta, Arkansas and Martha LaVerne (Gene) Henderson of Russellville, Arkansas and two brother-in-laws, Dennis and David Pettit, both of Burnside.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Melvin Thomas Shults, and one sister Anna Lee Gertrude Shults.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 29, 2011, at the Burnside Christian Church with Mark Pettit and Charles Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in the Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage, IL. Friends may call after 4:00 PM Wednesday at the church where the family will meet with friends from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established for Good News Production, St. Louis Christian College or Lee County Hospice.
