Frances M. "Peggy" Carnes
Frances M. “Peggy” Carnes age 84 of Carman, Illinois died at 3:15 p.m. Friday December 23, 2011 at her home. She was born April 24, 1927, the daughter of Clinton and Blanche Charder Burrell. On July 9, 1944, she married Roy Carnes in Kahoka, Missouri.
Peggy had worked at Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa, and at Eagles and HyVee Grocery Stores in Burlington. For fifteen years, she owned and operated the Dairy Stop in Stronghurst. She was a member of the Women Of The Moose in Burlington. She loved her home on the river, and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter- Gloria Ells of Burlington, three grandsons- Mike Day of Media, IL., Mark Day of Carman, IL., Roy Day of Blandinsville, IL., one grandaughter- Tammy Morris of Burlington, seven great grandchildren- Robert, Ashley, Lacey, Kaley, and Ro Day, Phillip and Curtis Smith, and one great great granddaughter- Autumn Day. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be held from Noon until 2:00 p.m. Tuesday December 27, 2011 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. The funeral for Mrs. Carnes will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals with Rev. Anita Munden officiating. Burial will be in the Stronghurst Cemetery.
