J. LaVern Root

Jesse LaVern Root, age 80 of Raritan, Illinois died at 12:05 P.M. Monday April 12, 2010 at his home. He was born January 20, 1930 in Frederick, Illinois, the son of Jesse and Alice Sears Root. On November 27, 1949, he married Mary Downey. They later divorced.

Mr. Root had managed the Raritan Feed and Farm Supply for several years and later was employed by J.I. Case Company in Burlington for twenty years.

Survivors include one daughter - Sherri (Lyle) Lant of Raritan, four sons - Danny Root of Good Hope, IL., David (Christine) Root of Monmouth, IL., Gary (Janet) Root of Stronghurst, IL., Jerry Root of Muscatine, IA., nine grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, one sister - Della McDonald of Havana, IL., and three brothers - George (Gwen) Root of Gillespie, IL., Donny (Mary) Root of Rushville, IL., and Larry (Nancy) Root of Richmond, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother - Eldred Root, and one great grandson - Matthew Craig Doornbos.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday April 16, 2010 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Jay Cowell officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery near Media, IL. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Banks & Beals, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday.
