Doris M. Pfolsgrof
Mrs. Doris M. Pfolsgrof, age 101, of Carthage, Illinois passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 6:15 A.M. at the Hancock Country Nursing Home in Carthage.
Doris was born on April 10, 1908 in Pilot Grove Township IL., the daughter of Ray and Juie Scott Hull. She married Willard "Tony" Pfolsgrof in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, Il. on April 3, 1945. He preceded her in death in February 1997.
She graduated from Donnellson, Ia. high school and completed her education at Carthage College. She taught in the Arenzville, Il. school system and there met her future husband. She and her husband lived in Elgin, Il. where Tony attended the Elgin Watch School. While there she served as a librarian to provide living expenses. They eventually opened their own jewelry store in Litchfield, Il. and retired there after 39 years of successful business. She was a member of the local Lutheran Church and an active member of Zonta, a professional women’s group. They also traveled worldwide to places that had a connection to their profession .She returned to Carthage and resided at Almost Home until moving to the Hancock County Nursing Home in May of 2005.
She is survived by a niece, Debbie Ehret, a nephew, Mike Hull, two sisters-in-law and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother, Gerald Hull.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Concord Cemetery, Concord, Illinois with Mark Nichols officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, IL. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice of Hancock County, the Hancock County Nursing Home, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Send a condolence here.
