Lyle E. Huss

 

Lyle Emerson Huss, age 73 of Lomax, Illinois died at 3:25 p.m. Monday September 28, 2009 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born October 18, 1935 near Gladstone, Illinois, the son of Edward and Helen Hunter Huss. On November 3, 1956, he married Ethel Anna Moyers in Burlington, Iowa.

Mr. Huss was raised and educated in Gladstone, Illinois. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had worked at the former Hudson Gas Station in Gulfport, IL., owned and operated a wrecker service, was employed by the Gladstone Grain Company, and retired from J.I.Case Company in 1992. After his retirement he owned the Huss Melon Stand in Lomax for several years. He was a jack of all trades who helped anyone in need. He was loved by many and will be truly missed.

Survivors include his wife, four daughters - Anna Gerst (and Daren Adler) of Fort Madison, IA., Lyla Huss (and Tim Schaefer) of Burlington, IA., Nancy Huss (and Elvin Hartsock) of Dallas City, IL., Wanda Wilson (and Leon Jr.) of Fort Madison, IA., nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one brother - Edward Huss Jr of Burlington, and four sisters - Glen Ola Lee of Burlington, Gail Furnald and Georgia Kenney, both of Oquawka, IL., and Geneva Stewart of West Burlington, IA. He was preceded in death by one son in infancy - Lyle Emerson Huss Jr., his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday October 2, 2009 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Illinois with Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Banks & Beals, where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
