Michael Leon Martin

Michael Leon Martin, 62 of Edelstein died Friday, June 26 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born April 16, 1947 in Galesburg, IL the son of Thornton L. and Dorothy A. (Simonson) Martin. He married Orpha Kaye Brown on June 7, 1980 in Colchester, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his children; Jamey L. (Christy) Martin of Naperville, IL, Jennifer K. Schneider of Phoenix, AZ, Jon M. (Rachel) Martin of Washburn, IL and Joel Casey Martin of Edelstein, IL, 8 Grandchildren; 5 Siblings - Lynne A. Martin of Galesburg, IL, Susan (Frank) Javorsky of Parkville, MO, Yale A. (Carol) Martin of Keller, TX, Rebecca (Bob) Kevoian of Indianapolis, IN and Rex A (Margreth) Martin of Wilmette, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He worked for J.A. Fritch & Sons, Inc. He was a member of Local Union #1.

Scouting was a big part of his life since 1958. In 1960 he received his Eagle Scout with Vigil Honors. He was a mentor to a lot of boys in Scouting. He was affiliated with Troop #91 of Chillicothe, IL, Troop #69 of Lacon, IL and Troop #63 of Stronghurst, IL. He loved camping and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held at Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, IL on Tuesday, June 30 at 11:00am. Burial will be in Stronghurst Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe on Monday evening from 5-7pm with sharing of memories at 7pm. Memorials may be made to Camp Eastman, Mississippi Valley Council #141.
