Ralph Roland Sutcliffe

R. Roland Sutcliffe, age 69 of Stronghurst, Illinois, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday May 11, 2009 in the Mission Hospital in Mission, Texas. He was born October 5, 1939 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Emaline Jane Dalton Sutcliffe. On November 11, 1960, he married Gloria Miller in Stronghurst. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2003. On June 3, 2004, he married Patricia Becker in Burlington, Iowa.

Roland worked as a mechanic for J.I. Case Company in Burlington, Iowa for twenty seven years. He also owned and operated his own trucking company from 1973 to 1989, and served as Stronghurst Township Road Commissioner from 1980 to 1988. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Oquawka Lodge #123 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the York Rite and the Scottish Rite, and the Blandinsville Chapter of the Order Of The Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Oddfellows Lodge #61 of Monmouth, and the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints of Burlington.

Survivors include his wife Patricia, one daughter - Veronica (Don) Bundy of Stronghurst, one son - Bill (Michelle Patrick) Sutcliffe of Cumming Georgia, four stepsons, one step daughter, one grandson - Adam Sutcliffe and one great grandson - Kevin Sutcliffe. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday May 18, 2009 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Bishop Jonathan Snow officiating. Burial will be in the Olena Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Banks & Beals in Stronghurst with Masonic Rites at 5:00p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints of Burlington, Iowa.
