Mike Day


Phillip Michael “Mike” Day, age 63 of rural Carman, Illinois, died at 10:50 p.m. Friday April 10, 2009 in the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born January 7, 1946 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Kenneth V. and Twila Jean Brown Day. He married Gloria Carnes. They later divorced. On August 30, 1980, he married Sally McNeil at Argyle State Park near Colchester, Illinois.

Mike had farmed for Evans’ Farms near Stronghurst for many years. He was a graduate of Media-Wever High School and also worked for the former Jacobs’ True Value Hardware Store in Stronghurst. He was an avid supporter of 4-H and FFA, and also coached PeeWee and Little Baseball and YMCA basketball
.
Survivors include his wife, Sally, one daughter - Tammy (Mike) Morris of Burlington, IA., four sons - Mike (Pam) Day Jr., of Media, IL., Mark (Tamara) Day of Carman, IL., Roy (Carla) Day of Blandinsville, IL., Mackenzie (Brooke Stull) Day of Carman, two step daughters - Mindi Bartlett, of Dallas City, IL., Amy McGowen of Colchester, IL., ten grandchildren - Robert Day, Phillip (Rose) Smith, Curtis Smith, Ashley, Lacey, Kaley, and Ro Day, Shelby and Trey Bartlett, and Devin Markham, one sister - Connie (Wendell) Booton, of Stronghurst, and three brothers - Richard (Marilyn) Day of Kahoka, MO., Dennis (Karen) Day of Carman, and Terry (Allison) Day of Meredosia, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild - Jimmy Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday April 14, 2009 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Pastor Dan Ashton officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 p.m. Monday at Banks & Beals, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday. A memorial fund has been established. Send a
