Donald R. Carnes
Donald Richard Carnes, age 80 of rural Media, Illinois died at 4:30 P.M. Wednesday April 1, 2009 at his home. He was born September 3, 1928 near Media, the son of James M. and Leona V. Littrel Carnes. On January 18, 1956, he married Jane Feikert in Stronghurst.
Mr. Carnes was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He farmed all of his life and also operated a lawnmower repair business for several years. He was active with the Boy Scouts Troop 5 of Stronghurst, and was a member of the Stronghurst American Legion Post #765, Stronghurst Lions Club, and the Stronghurst Christian Church. He was an avid bowler, and had bowled in the Henderson County Men’s League for forty years.
Survivors include his wife, Jane, one son - Donald (Carla) Carnes Jr., of Media, four daughters - Peggy Lynn (Jim) Pullins, Donna (Terry) Painter, and Tereasa Pence, all of Stronghurst, Bonnie Jo Carnes of Franklin, Tennessee, five grandchildren - Montana Pence, Travis Pence, Craig Carnes, Tracy (Jason) Eastin, Zach Swisher, three great grandchildren - Alec, Emma, and Abby Eastin, and one sister - Betty (Robert) Carmean of Stronghurst. He was preceded in death by one son - James Edward “Eddie” Carnes, and twelve brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday April 6, 2009 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Maurice Stribling officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday at Banks & Beals. Memorials have been established for the Camp Eastman Boy Scout Camp, Stronghurst American Legion Post #765, and the Stronghurst Lions Club. Send a condolence here.
