Clarence Fritz

Clarence Fritz, age 97 of Pontoosuc, Illinois died at 4:20 a.m. Monday February 9, 2009 in the Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, Iowa.

He was born October 11, 1911 in Culbertson, Nebraska, the son of Fred and Milda Wagner Fritz. On August 27, 1955, he married Rosetta (Jones) Settles in Big Bear Lake, California. She preceded him in death on November 13, 2007.

Mr. Fritz served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was a Cub Scout Leader for several years in the Los Angeles area. He retired from the Carrier Corporation in 1972 after thirty seven years as a welding instructor and supervisor. After his retirement, he moved to Pontoosuc, where he enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

Survivors include one daughter - Lana JoAnn (John) Flack of Dallas City, IL., one grandson - Bryan (Wendy) Clinton, one great granddaughter - Morgan Marie Clinton of Chino Hills, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, and one son- Clarence Fritz, Jr. USMC.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday February 12, 2009 in the Harris Cemetery with Rev. Lee Unger officiating. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
