Gordon D. DeSotel

Mr. Gordon D. DeSotel, 79, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Monday, February 2, 2009 at 5:10 A.M. at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.

He was born October 12, 1929 in Luana, Iowa, the son of Emil and Irene Lindroth DeSotel. On June 7, 1949 he married Darlene Fett in Monona, Iowa.

Mr. DeSotel worked as a buttermaker for many years in Guttenberg and Petersburg, Iowa. In 1966 he moved to Dallas City and was employed as plant supervisor for the former Apple River Chemical Plant near Niota, Illinois. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Cindy Morarend of St. Louis, Missouri, three sons, Randy DeSotel of Dallas City, Dale DeSotel of Niota and Dave DeSotel of Danville, Iowa, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, Darlene Funk of Ten Sheep, Wyoming and Nyla DeSotel of Waukon, Iowa and one brother, Wayne DeSotel.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Pastor Doug Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home, Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until time of services. A memorial fund has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
