Robert W. "Bob" Lowe

Mr. Robert W. “Bob” Lowe, 76, of Pontoosuc, Illinois passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 3:35 P.M. at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.

He was born July 16, 1932 in Burlington Iowa, the son of Paul F. and Lillie Marsh Lowe. On November 5, 1960 he married Ardelle Gearman in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Lowe served in the US Army from 1949 - 1952 and from 1961 - 1964. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 17th Infantry Regiment. He was a retired Boilermaker, working out of Local 83 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a lifetime member of the Carthage VFW Post 5117 and the Carthage American Legion Post 74. He served on the VFW board and their Honor Guard. He also served on the Pontoosuc Village Board and was a member of the Fort Madison Moose. He enjoyed Trap Shooting.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Mike (Joyce) Lowe of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter-in-law, Mary Hitchcock of Andalusia, Illinois, one sister, Nellie (Merle) McKee of Spokane, Washington and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces aand nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ross Hitchcock and two brothers, Paul and Fred Lowe.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Keokuk National Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the American Lung Association. There will be no visitation. Banks & Beals Funeral Home, Dallas City is in charge of arrangements.
