Shirley Ann Steffey-Holton
Shirley Ann Steffey-Holton, age 78 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday January 8, 2009 in the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. She was born July 6, 1930 near Stronghurst, the daughter of Benjamin Otto and Ruth Adaline Davis Steffey.
Shirley was married to Charles H. Smith from 1952 to 1962. In September of 1964, she married Paul R. Holton. He died in September of 1967.
She was a 1948 graduate of Stronghurst High School and later graduated from Stephens College of Columbia, Missouri with a degree in merchandising. After graduation, she worked in retail and later formed a partnership with the Parolee Shoppe in Monmouth, Illinois. She was later employed by the Bank Of Stronghurst for forty two years, retiring in1998 as Bank Auditor. She was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.
Survivors include cousins- Richard and Linda Clifton, Gene and Theresa Fox, Don and Beverly Brent, Kenny and Jane Morris, Dick and Karen Peasley, all of Stronghurst, Donald Morris of Des Moines, Iowa, John and Ruth Bickle of Galesburg, IL., Cheryl Peasley of Lorton, VA., Henry and Barbara Thatcher of Danville, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister- Barbara Steffey who died in infancy, and by both husbands.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday January 12, 2009 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Rev. Gene Turner officiating. Private entombment will follow in the Hope Abbey Mausoleum in Stronghurst. Visitation is one hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Stronghurst United Methodist Church, Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, or the Stronghurst Ambulance Service.
