Minnie R. Gatton

Mrs. Minnie R. Gatton, 94, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008 at 6:55 AM at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.

She was born November 27, 1914 near Lomax, Illinois, the daughter of John and Nellie (Longcor) Williams. On June 6, 1936 she married Herbert P. Wheatley. He died October 14, 1972. On November 22, 19 84 she married Elmer Gatton. He died July 11, 1992.

She lived near Terre Haute and LaHarpe, Illinois for many years and from 1983 - 1992 lived in What Cheer, Iowa. She returned to LaHarpe following the death of Mr. Gatton. In her earlier years she worked at the Lomax Canning Factory and was a member and attended the Lomax Nazarene Church. She enjoyed reading and embroidering.

She is survived by one son, Eugene (Sharon) Wheatley of Burnside, Illinois, two daughters, Rosetta (Vernon) Kitzman of What Cheer, Iowa and Virginia (Michael) Palmer of LaHarpe, 29 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, three sons, Clyde, Robert and David Wheatley, two daughters, Norma Shirts and Joan Thomas, one grandson, Chad Palmer one great-granddaughter, Tiffane Wheatley, son-in-law Harold Thomas and daughter-in-law Shirley Wheatley.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Tom Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Terre Haute Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.
