Ronald C. Smith

Mr. Ronald C. Smith, 61, of Webster, Illinois passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 8:20 A.M. at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. .

He was born July 31, 1947 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of Clyde “Junior” and Betty Hasten Smith. On July 31, 1966 he married Joy H. Casley in Webster.

Earlier in life he worked for Bouseman Auto Supply in Fountain Green and later went to work for Bob Tillman at his farm in Webster, where he worked for over 30 years. He also owned and operated Plants For Less Greenhouse in Webster for 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved working in the greenhouses and teaching his grandchildren how to work the soil and plant the flowers. He enjoyed time spent with family and playing cards. He was a founding member of the Fountain Green Fire Station where he served as a volunteer fireman for 36 years. He was a member and Deacon of the Webster Community Church.


He is survived by his wife, his mother Betty Smith of Webster, 2 sons, Leroy (Lisa) Smith of Colchester, Illinois and Billy (Christina) Smith of Carthage, Illinois, 2 daughters, Rhonda (Clarence) Jarboe of Webster and Verna (Andy) Watkins of Bowen, Illinois, 7 grandchildren, Samantha Jarboe, C.J. Jarboe, Ray Golden, Christinia and Tony Watkins and Zacharia and Riley Smith, 2 great-granddaughters, Tabatha Heitmeier and Paige Jarboe, 3 brothers, Dennis (Jackie) Smith of Pennsylvania and Gary (Jan) Smith and Terry Smith of Blandinsville, Illinois, 5 sisters, Kathy (Mike) Peters of rural Carthage, Mary (Kent) Ussery of Tennessee, Illinois, Hollie (Steve) Wilhelm of Dallas City, Illinois, Goldie Yarbrough of Webster and Brenda (Keith) Bruns of rural Basco, Illinois, 1 aunt, Mary (Lyle) Bradenstetter of Burlington, Iowa, 1 uncle, Loren Smith of Michigan, several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Webster Community Church with Robert Tillman officiating. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Fountain Green Fire Department. Banks & Beals Funeral Home, LaHarpe is assisting with arrangements.
