Glenn E. Ballinger

Mr. Glenn E. Ballinger, 75, of Nauvoo, Illinois passed away Sunday, November 2, 2008 at his home.
He was born September 30, 1933 near Niota, Illinois, the son of Keith and Nellie Price Ballinger. On December 19, 1953 he married Thelma Thomas in Niota. She preceded him in death. He married Juanita Gittings Stein on May 18, 1996 in Farmington, Iowa.
He attended Victory Grade School and was a 1951 graduate of the Dallas City High School. He worked for the TP & W Railroad and for Champion Spark Plug. He moved to Colorado where he worked for a hog confinement operation. Later he moved to Farmington, Iowa where he and 9 other men started a hog confinement operation, raising feeder pigs. He also worked for Shimik Forrest near Farmington. He retired in 1993. He moved to Nauvoo in 1997 and was a member of the Lomax, Illinois Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Sam Koontz of Danville, Iowa, four step-children, Ronald Stein of Nauvoo, Mary Lou Stein of New Boston, Iowa, Virginia Copen of Zainesville, Ohio and Joyce Stein of Fort Madison, Iowa, eight grandchildren, Tom Koontz, Tammy Hobbs, Billy Nail, David Nail, Doug Copen, Jr., Charity Baker, Amy Yocum and Mandy Copen, 16 great-grandchildren and one sister, Dolores (Frank) Gilpin of Pontoosuc, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and his parents.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Pastor Cheryl Simpson officiating. Burial will be in the Terre Haute, Illinois Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation with the family but friends are welcome to call at the funeral home between 4:00 and 8:00 P.M. Tuesday.
