Arnold Joseph Siens

Arnold Joseph Siens, age 81 of Burlington, Iowa, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday July 26, 2008 in the Great River Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. He was born November 19, 1926 in rural Carman, Illinois, the son of Daniel and Mary Parkins Siens. On October 18, 1947, he married Margie N. Armel in Burlington.

He attended Crystal Lake and Ellison Valley Grade Schools, and Biggsville and Stronghurst High Schools. In 1945, he was drafted into the United States Army and went to basic training in Camp Fannin, Texas. He served at Fort Sam Houston 4th Army Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas until November 1946. He had worked at Merchant's Wholesale, Burman Motors, Frudeger Bakery and Sweetheart Bakery, the HyVee Stores in Burlington and Fort Madison, and retired in 1987 after twenty years at Warren Radio. He was a member of the Burlington American Legion Post #52, and the Malta Lodge #318 AF & AM of Burlington. He loved his family, 50's and 60's country music, traveling to Branson and Florida, and camping with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife , one brother - Edwin (Sandra) Siens of Carman, several nieces, nephews, cousins, great niecesand great nephews and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers- Byron and Danny Siens and three sisters - Vera, Mary and Mabel Siens.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 30, 2008 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst with Pastor William Deisher officiating. Burial will be in the Carman Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Banks & Beals where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 8:00p.m. Memorials have been established for the Carman United Methodist Church and Great River Hospice of West Burlington, Iowa.
