Richard Irvin Oge

Richard I. Oge, age 86 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 11:55 P.M. Thursday July 10, 2008 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. He was born February 20, 1922 in New London, Iowa, the son of Henry and Blanche Marshall Oge. On November 22, 1962, he married Pauline Strand.


Mr Oge was a graduate of New London High School. Following high school, he worked in the C.C. Camps, and later enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served from 1941 until 1961. After his retirement from the Navy, he had worked at Sylvania Corporation, and later worked as an inspector for General Electric Company in Burlington for 26 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Stronghurst American Legion, the New London VFW, and the Bethel Lutheran Church of Stronghurst, where he had served on the Board and was custodian for 30 years.


Survivors include his wife, one daughter - Paula (Steve) Haight of Cedar Rapids, IA., and three grandchildren - Ashley, Nicholas and Gunner Haight. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers- Melvin, Edward, Donald, Virden, and Lloyd Oge, and by two sisters - Elizabeth Oge and Idella Landes.


Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday July 14, 2008 in the Bethel Lutheran Church of Stronghurst with Rev. James Olsen officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Stronghurst Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Sunday.
