Leona E. Kershner

Mrs Leona E. Smith Kershner, 96, of Lomax, Illinois passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 at 2:40 AM at the Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb,. Illinois.

She was born March 15, 1912 in Lomax, the daughter of Arthur and Julia Worley Smith Sr. On August 1, 1928 she married Jule Kershner in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1996.

Mrs. Kershner worked at the Lomax Canning Factory, the Rubber Plant in Keokuk, Iowa, IAAP in Middletown, Iowa and retired from Montgomery Ward in Burlington after 20 years. She was a member of the Lomax Christian Church.

She is survived by three sons, Arthur Kershner of Burlington, Roy Kershner of Bushnell, Illinois and Paul Kershner of Lomax, one daughter, Estella Mumme of Arlington Texas, 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Helen Bunch, one grandson, Todd Kershner, one granddaughter, Teresa Kershner, seven brothers, one sister and her parents.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, March 24, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Illinois with Rev. Jon Keck officiating. Burial will be in the Crane Cemetery near Lomax. Friends may call after 4:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the Lomax Ambulance Service.
