Daniel W. "Danny" Nichols

Daniel W. “Danny” Nichols, age 78 of rural Media, Illinois, died at 12:15P.M. Sunday March 16, 2008 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. He was born April 10, 1929 in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Roy and Mary Trimble Nichols. On March 17, 1947, he married Nevada Riley in Effingham, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2004.

Mr. Nichols was a welder for J.I. Case Company in Burlington, Iowa for many years, retiring in 1988. Earlier he had worked for the railroad, was a licensed plumber for Carl Jacobsen Plumbing and Heating in Stronghurst, and was employed as a rural mail carrier for several years. He was a former volunteer fireman, and had served as Assistant Chief for the M.S.T. Fire Department for several years. He also served as Elder and Sunday School Teacher at the Stronghurst Christian Church for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushrooming.

Survivors include three daughters - Vicky (and Ronald) Van Blair of Stronghurst, Carol (and Gene) Heap, Donna (and Chuck) Link, both of rural Media, one son - Todd (and Gladys) Nichols of Lebanon, MO., 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one brother - Rodney (and Karen) Nichols of Stronghurst and one sister - Wanda (and Lou) Burkett of West Burlington, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday March 19, 2008 in the Stronghurst Christian Church with Ron Kelly officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery near Media. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:30 P.M. Tuesday.
