Okle M. Browning

Mrs. Okle Browning, 90, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Monday, February 11, 2008 at 2:35 PM at her home.

She was born April 11, 1917 near Fountain Green, Illinois, the daughter of Thomas and Inez Burrow Campbell. On June 25, 1938 she married Luther Browning in Ottumwa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 15, 1994.

She was a graduate of LaHarpe High School in 1936. She was a member of the LaHarpe United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 30 years. She also attended the Grace Bible Church in Dallas City.

She was a homemaker and also worked at the Lomax Canning Factory until it closed and then became a nurses aid at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center.

She is survived by 1 son, Leon Browning of Durham, Illinois, 1 daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Olson of LaHarpe, 5 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Haldene “Dee” Campbell of Los Angeles, California, Clee Campbell of Quincy, Illinois and Galen Campbell of Beloit, Wisconsin, 1 sister, Era “Sissy” Long of Decatur, Illinois a special brother-in-law and friend, Oscar “Bud” Mittermeyer of LaHarpe and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 daughters, Beverly, in infancy, and Carol Boone, 3 brothers, Bernard, Daren and Larry Campbell and 1 sister, Erice Campbell and 1 great-granddaughter.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Revs. Larry Menschel and Louis Day officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 PM Friday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial fund has been established for the LaHarpe United Methodist Church, the Grace Bible Church or MDH Hospice. Send a condolence here.
