Donald Lee Rankin

Donald Lee Rankin, age 68 of rural Media, Illinois, died at 4:05 A.M. Wednesday December 5, 2007 at his home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born July 5, 1939 near Media, the son of Elmer and Pauline Van Arsdale Rankin. On October 24, 1959, he married Patricia Avery in Peoria, Illinois.

Mr. Rankin was a 1957 graduate of Media-Wever High School in Media, Illinois, and attended Bradley University in Peoria. He farmed in the Alexis and Norwood area before joining the Illinois State Police in 1968. He was an Illinois State Trooper for 23 years, working in District 14 in Macomb, Illinois, retiring in 1991. During that time, he lived in Augusta, Illinois, moving back to the family farm near Media upon his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, and taking care of his livestock.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters- Pam (and Larry) Gooding of Hamilton, IL., Diana Rankin of Smithshire, IL., two sons - Robert (and Kim) Rankin of Carthage, IL., Brian (and Christine) Rankin of Canton, IL., six grandchildren - Brandon Gooding, Brent (and Mandy) Gooding, Jessica Rankin, Megan Rankin, A.J. Bailey, Cara Rankin, one great grandson- Nolan Gooding, one sister - Delta (and George) Sinn of Delavan, IL., two brothers - Delbert (and Elizabeth) Rankin of Lomax, IL., Dean (and Helen) Rankin of Alexis, IL., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister - Ruth Norquist.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday December 10, 2007 in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, with Rev. James Olsen officiating. Burial will be in the Raritan Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday December 9th at Banks & Beals. Memorials have been established for the Raritan Reformed Church, Blessing Hospice, and the Oncology Department of Carthage Memorial Hospital. Send a condolence here.
