Anna Lou Chaney

Anna Lou Bondurant Chaney, 102, of Colusa, Illinois died Monday, November 12, 2007 in the home of her son, Benny Marvin and Sunny Chaney in Kingsport, Tennessee.
Anna Lou was born July 1, 1905 in Lewis County, Missouri, north of La Belle. She was the fourth of six daughters born to Emmett Marvin Bondurant and Lucinda Virginia Throckmorton Bondurant. On March 31, 1928 she married Cecil F. Chaney in Marshall, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1991.
Anna Lou attended Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri. In 1926, she began a teaching career in Longwood, Missouri. Shortly thereafter, she met Cecil Franklin Chaney and they were married March 31, 1928. She later received her degree from Illinois State University. Throughout her 31-year career in the classroom, Anna Lou also taught in Harrisburg, Missouri, Colusa and Farmer City, Illinois and Fort Madison, Iowa. Anna Lou took time off from teaching from 1933 to 1945 to raise her family.
She is survived by two sons Gary Cecil (Grace) Chaney of Northbrook, Illinois and Benny Marvin (Sunny) Chaney of Kingsport, Tennessee. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Michele (Timothy) McConnell of Monona, Wisconsin, Melody Elam of Kingsport, Tennessee, Stanton Chaney of Johnson City, Tennessee, Holly (Les) Evans of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Gary Cecil Chaney, Jr. of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and J. Thomas Chaney of Chicago, Illinois as well as eleven great-grandchildren.
Anna Lou is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Cecil, their daughter Connie Ann Thompson and her husband William F .Thompson of Madison, Wisconsin and granddaughter Colette D. Carr of Portage, Wisconsin.
The family will meet with friends and former students from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Banks and Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe, Illinois. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the funeral home with a former student, the Reverend Robert Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Colusa United Methodist Church. Send a condolence here.
