Viola E. Melton

Mrs. Viola E. Melton, 93, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 11:30 P.M. at her home.

She was born September 14, 1914 in Milltown, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Frances Ellen Babcock Cosby. On September 1, 1932 she married J. Paul Melton in Corydon, Indiana. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1977.

Viola graduated from Milltown High School and later in life attended Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa graduating in 1967 as an LPN. She then worked at the LaHarpe Hospital, Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Illinois and the LaHarpe Davier Health Care Center. She was a member of the Colusa United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, J.D. Melton of Dallas City and L.R. Melton of Duncanville, Texas, two daughters, Georgia Lauer of Burlington, Iowa and Pam Orth of Dallas City, 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, James Robert Melton and two brothers, Robert and Gilbert Cosby.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, October 13, 2007 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe with Rev. Doug Clark officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home, Saturday, from noon until time of services. A memorial has been established. Send a condolence here.
