Erma L. Clanton

Mrs. Erma L. Clanton, 85, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Edward Hospital in Naperville, Illinois.
She was born August 16, 1922 in Iola Kansas, the daughter of Franklin and Alice Buckner Ludlum.

The family moved to Niota, Illinois in 1929 where she grew to adulthood. She graduated from Dallas City High School in 1940 and attended Western Illinois University. In March 1948 she married Warren Clanton in Meeker Oklahoma. He preceded her in death in July of 1975.
Her family moved to Payson, Oklahoma in 1942 and she soon followed. She worked as a tool inspector at Tinker Air Force Base during the war and enjoyed playing softball on a traveling girl’s team in her spare time.
Mrs. Clanton and her family returned to Dallas City in September of 1962. She held a variety of jobs and was postmaster of the Dallas City Post Office until her retirement in 1986. Mrs. Clanton was a devoted mother, grand mother and great grandmother. She enjoyed being with her family and friends very much and will be deeply missed

She is survived by three sons, Larry L. Clanton (Renee) of Bolingbrook Illinois, Michael E. Clanton (Patricia) and H. Patrick Clanton both of Dallas City Illinois, three grand children, Brian P. Clanton of Bolingbrook, Illinois and Tracy M. Clanton of Woodridge, Illinois and Samuel Clanton of Dallas City, Illinois, one great grand daughter Katherine Lillian, two Brothers Milford L. Ludlum ( Karen) of Shawnee Oklahoma, Harold O. Ludlum (Gloria) of Dallas, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, Mabel Ruth VanArx and three brothers Benjamin, Elmer and Howard Ludlum.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Doug Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. A memorial fund has been established.
