Barbara J. Smyser

Barbara Jean Smyser, age 79 of LaHarpe, Illinois died at 7:43 P.M. Friday August 10, 2007 in the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center. She was born September 25, 1927 in LaHarpe, the daughter of George E. and Bernice Waggoner Gillett. On March 21, 1947, she married Donald K. Smyser in LaHarpe. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1980.

Mrs. Smyser was employed at Sylvania Corporation in Burlington for 17 years, and later worked from her home as a telephone answering service. She was a member of the LaHarpe Historical Society and the LaHarpe Christian Church.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter in infancy-Donna Jean Smyser, five brothers- Art, Fred, Sam, George, and Bernard Gillett and three sisters- Helen Kline, Betty Hensley, and Mary Shoemate.

Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday August 14, 2007 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Banks & Beals with Rev. Darren Beachy officiating. Burial will be in the LaHarpe Cemetery.
