Larry Gittings

Larry C. Gittings, age 68, of Gladsotne, Illinois died at 9:15 A.M. Monday July 30, 2007 at his home. He was born June 6, 1939 in Lomax, Illinois, the son of Chester E. and Hazel Marie Pendry Gittings. On January 27, 1978, he married Jean Husband in Kahoka, Missouri.

Mr. Gittings was a graduate of Stronghurst High School. He was an ironworker for Local 577 in West Burlington, Iowa, retiring in 1995. He was an avid carpenter, and enjoyed NASCAR, football, wrestling, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and old cars. He dearly loved his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter- Laura Claassen of LaHarpe, IL., one step daughter - Kathy Roberts of Gladstone, IL., 2 step sons - Richard Roberts of Carthage, IL, Michael Roberts of Hamilton, IL., 2 grandsons, 9 step grandchildren, 2 step great granddaughters, 3 sisters - Roberta (and Fritz) Eschman of Fort Madison, IA., Beverly (and Melvin) Krogmeier of Salem, IA., Barbara (and Lee) Clark of Blandinsville, IL., 2 brothers- Mike (and Lora) Gittings and Marvin (and Terri) Gittings, both of Lomax, IL., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother- Leland Gittings and one niece- Elizabeth Gittings.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, IL. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday August 2, 2007 in the Crane Cemetery, near Lomax. A memorial fund has been established for the family. Send a condolence here.
