Edwin H. Meyers

Mr. Edwin H. Meyers, 82, of Tennessee, Illinois, passed away Saturday, June 30 , 2007 at 9:30 A.M. at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois.

He was born October 20, 1924 in Fountain Green, Illinois, the son of Harold and Helen Blackledge Meyers. On May 6, 1944 he married Marjorie Holmes in Portsmouth, England.

Mr. Meyers served in the US Army during World War II. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 649 in Peoria, Illinois. He also farmed and operated the Corner Café in Tennessee for many years. Earlier he and his wife operated Marj and Ed’s Coffee Club in Fountain Green.

He was a member of the VFW in Carthage, a 50 year member of the LaHarpe Masonic Lodge, the Eagles in Macomb and a member and former Chief of the Fountain Green Fire Department

He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Carol Kerfoot of Augusta, Illinois and Janet Allen of Burlington, Iowa, 3 grandchildren, Roger and Rodney Kerfoot and Angie Luetger, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren and 1 brother, Richard Meyers of Minden, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Eugene Meyers and 2 sisters, Margaret Williams and Martha Ellen Meyers.

Graveside services with Military Rites will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the McConnell Cemetery near Fountain Green with Mark Hanson officiating. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe where Masonic Rites will be held at 6:00P.M. Tuesday followed by visitation with the family until 8:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established for the Hancock County Humane Society and the Fountain Green Presbyterian Church. Send a condolence here.
