Charles William "Bill" Cox

 

Mr. Charles William “Bill” Cox, 79, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 6:40 P.M. at the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center in LaHarpe.

He was born December 1, 1927 in Lomax, Illinois, the son of Frank and Clara Eckhardt Cox. In 1940 he moved in with Cliff and Helen Eckhardt. On August 8, 1950 he married Betty Mae Swanson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 29, 1995.

Mr. Cox was a graduate of the Terre Haute, Illinois High School class of 1945. He served in the US Army in World War II with the Military Police. He worked as car salesman for Fred Gibb Chevrolet and for Carl Motors. In 1967 he and his wife opened the Coast to Coast Store in LaHarpe, which they operated until 1982.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Carol Selmon (Scott) and Cathy Burford (Jerry) all of LaHarpe, 3 grandchildren, Tiffany Finch (Trevor) Ryan Quivey and Cindy Fry (Lonnie), 6 great-grandchildren, Kylie, Coulter, Cayden, Madilyn, Allyssa and Austin and 1 brother, Glen Cox of Viola, Illinois and nieces and nephews.

The family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday, July 2, 2007 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. A private family graveside service will be held at LaHarpe Cemetery at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center, LaHarpe Fire Department or Blessing Hospice of Hancock County. Send a condolence here.
