Ivan Jacobs
Ivan G. Jacobs, age 84 of Stronghurst, Illinois, died at 2:45 P.M. Saturday June 9, 2007 in the Roseville Country Manor in Roseville, Illinois. He was born June 20, 1922 in Stronghurst, the son of Martin and Jeanette McCartney Jacobs. On June 15, 1947, he married Kathleen Swanson. She preceded him in death on March 4, 1994.
Mr Jacobs was a World War II veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He farmed all of his life near Stronghurst and Biggsville, and also owned and operated Jacobs’ True Value Hardware Store and Jacobs’ Plumbing & Heating in Stronghurst for many years. He was a member of the Biggsville American Legion, the Henderson County V.F.W., and the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one brother - Sydney (and Koeta) Jacobs of Mesa, Arizona and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, four brothers- Everett, Vincent, Franklin, and Earl Jacobs, and by two sisters- Roberta Ross and Lillian Shook.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday June 14, 2007 in the Stronghurst United Methodist Church. Burial with military rites will be in the Biggsville Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday.
