Mary Virginia May

Mrs. Mary Virginia May, 79, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 2:30 A.M. at the Park Place Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

She was born January 14, 1928 in Galt, Missouri, the daughter of Everett and Martha Mitchell Evans. On May 5, 1945 she married Roby May in Galt.

She and her husband lived in Missouri until 1955 when they moved to a farm between Niota and Nauvoo and later to Dallas City. She worked at Shaeffer Pen Company in Fort Madison for 25 years.. She and her husband spent the winters in Texas for 19 years where she volunteered in the schools and she also served as volunteer at the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Dallas City Senior Citizens and the Lomax Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Sherry Gittings of Branson, Missouri and Lois Douglas of Dallas City, two sons, Randy May of Lomax and David May of Chillicothe, Missouri, 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Peggy Stott officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will meet with friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established for the Lomax Ambulance Service and the Lomax Christian Church. Send a condolence here.
