Mae E. Wells

Mrs. Mae E. Wells, 93, of Dallas City, Illinois passed away Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 8:37 P.M. at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

She was born near Smithshire, Illinois on July 23, 1913, the daughter of Willard C. and Katie M. (Jones) Brown. On September 5, 1937 she married Delbert G. Wells in Burlington, Iowa. He entered  military service in November 1943 and was killed in action March 19, 1945.

She grew up in the Smithshire and Roseville communities and was a 1932 graduate of Roseville High School. She moved to Dallas City in 1940 and began working at Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa in 1944. She retired from there on September 5, 1975. She was a member of the Dallas City United Methodist Church, the Dallas City American Legion Auxiliary and the Dallas City Golden Age Club.

Surviving are one niece, three cousins and her special girls, Carolyn Newberry, Laurey Wibbell and Penny Robertson all of Dallas City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one sister and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Gene Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, Illinois. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
