Martha Hicks

Martha L. Hicks, age 86 of Stronghurst, Illinois died at 2:45 P.M. Saturday May 12, 2007 in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst.  She was born July 18, 1920 near Stronghurst the daughter of Gear and Mamie Dowell Peterson.  On November 4, 1940, she married Marion Hicks in Palmyra, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on October 23, 1985.

Mrs Hicks had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant in Middletown, and for Ross Manufacturing in Burlington.  She had also managed a restaurant for the El Paso Natural Gas Company in the Lowry Camp oil fields in New Mexico for several years.   She was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter- Kay (and Melvin) Blind, of Wever, Iowa, one son - Gary (and Joyce) Hicks of Stronghurst, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, one sister - Bonnie (and Tony) Utt of Burlington, IA., and one brother - Gear (and Lorraine) Peterson of Stronghurst.  She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers- Raymond and Harold Peterson, and one sister Mamie Philbrick.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday May 15, 2007 in the Stronghurst Christian Church with Pastor Ron Kelly officiating.  Burial will be in the Olena Cemetery, near Stronghurst.  Friends may call after   2:00 P.M. Monday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst, where the family will be present from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday.  A memorial fund has been established for the Stronghurst Ambulance Service.
