James A. "Jim" Stamp

James A. “Jim” Stamp, age 64 of rural Stronghurst, Illinois died at 1:33 A.M. Thursday April 5, 2007 in the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.  He was born December 19, 1942 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of James J. and Georgia Mae Wells Stamp.  On May 18, 1985, he married Linda Miller in Burlington.

Jim was a graduate of Stronghurst High School, received his Associate’s Degree from Burlington Junior College, his Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, and his Master’s Degree from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL. He was the Department Head of the Industrial Technology, and taught Industrial Arts and Building Trades in Amboy, Illinois for 26 years.  In 1991, he returned to Stronghurst and worked for Brockway Company in Burlington for 2 years.  In 1993, he re-established the Building Trades Department at Fort Madison High School and was currently Department Head, and taught Industrial Arts and Building Trades.  He loved woodworking, hunting, fishing, and golfing.

Survivors include his wife, one daughter- Brenda Ann (and Tom) Greenwood of Keller, TX., 3 sons- James Gregory (and Christa) Stamp of Louisville, KY., Derek Sean Jacobson of Davenport, IA., Laiff Alan (and Denise) Jacobson of Dixon, IL., and 8 grandchildren- James Zachary Stamp, Kaley Mae Stamp, Cody Kent Greenwood, Dakota Greenwood, India Sarai Ballew, Derek Abel Jacobson, Hannah Joy Jacobson, and Cort Edwin Jacobson.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday April 9, 2007 in the Stronghurst United Methodist Church with Rev. Gene Turner officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service, and interment of ashes will be in the Stronghurst Cemetery at a later date.  Friends may call after 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst where the family will be present from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.  A memorial fund has been established for the Stronghurst Ambulance Service.
