Herbert C. "Bob" Kenzler

Mr. Herbert C. “Bob” Kenzler, 78, died at 12:45 P.M. Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at the Countryview Care Center in Macomb.

He was born December 16, 1928 in Ashburn, MO, the fourteenth child of fifteen born to Walter George and Pearl Edith (Wisemiller) Kenzler. He never married.

He is survived by two sisters, Lola M. Jolley of Rushville, IL and Hilda M. Enos of Joplin, MO, one brother, Silas G. Kenzler of Gibbstown, NJ, many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. His large circle of friends surviving include those in the community of Paris, MO where he grew to adulthood, ones in the Dallas City - LaHarpe area and Carthage, IL Terrace Group Home where he lived for 17 years, prior to moving to the Countryview Care Center in 2003. He will be missed by the residents and staff of Countryview.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers who died in infancy, one sister, eight brothers and his stepmother, Viola Kenzler.

He was educated to the 8th grade in Ashburn, MO, and moved with his family to the Paris, MO area where they farmed. He assisted his father and family working on the farm, until his father’s death. He enjoyed the farm animals and knew all phases of farm work and gardening.

Bob was active in his church near Paris, The Church of God of Independent Holiness People, attending services faithfully. During the time he lived with his brother, Paul, he attended the LaHarpe Nazarene Church and when he moved to Carthage, he was baptized and joined the First Baptist Church of Carthage, where he remains a member.

He belonged to and participated in Illinois Special Olympics while living in Carthage and won many medals and ribbons for his skills. He loved going to school and was very proud of his success attending Carthage Campus of Carl Sandburg College Pre-GED program. He attended part-time for several years and proudly hung his certificate over his bed. During his time living at the group home, he went on a bus trip to Disney World, traveled to out of state Olympic meets with his team, participated in a swimming program at the YMCA, and participated in all group activities at the home. Being one of the few high functioning adults, he was often chosen to be the reader in skits and performances. He enjoyed writing in his notebook and spent considerable time doing artwork.

A celebration of life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Carthage at 11:00 A.M. Monday March19, 2007 with Rev. Jon Heikes and Rev. James Fox officiating. Visitation will be held Monday at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time of services. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Paris, MO with Rev. Erion Bergman officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or Countryview Care Center. Banks & Beals Funeral Home, LaHarpe is in charge of arrangements. Send a condolence here.
