James Sickels
James D. Sickels, Sr., age 72 of rural Stronghurst, Illinois died at 2:45 A.M. Thursday March 1, 2007 at his home. He was born November 2, 1934 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Marion and Myrle Huneke Sickels. On April 14, 1956, he married Cornelia A. Mosher in Burlington.
Mr. Sickels was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in combat during the Korean War. He was employed for 24 ½ years at J.I. Case Company in Burlington, retiring in 1980. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and wintering in the southwest for 10 years. He was a member of the Sesame Street CB Club, the Disabled American Veterans, and the V.F.W. Post 10102 of Burlington. He had been a member of the former Walnut Street Baptist Church in Burlington.
Survivors include his wife, four sons- David Sickels of Scottsville, KY., Daniel (and Diane) Sickels of Oquawka, IL., Douglas (and Mary) Sickels of Fort Madison, IA., Darrel (and Diane) Sickels of Bay City, MI., one daughter- Suzanne (and Phil) Dye of Stronghurst, 13 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, two brothers- Darrel (and Nancy) Sickels of West Liberty, IA., Robert (and Carol) Sickels of Campbell Island, IL., one sister- Ruth (and Frank) Bailey of Arizona, special friends- Naomi Kuenstler of Stronghurst, Bill (and Charlene) Clark of Burlington, IA., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Graveside committal of ashes will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday March 7, 2007 in the Olena Cemetery, near Stronghurst, with Rev. Gene Turner officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Stronghurst American Legion. No Visitation is planned. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Home Health Unit of the Henderson County Health Department, Gladstone, Illinois.
