Lewis K. Lawrence

Lewis K. Lawrence, age 96, resident of Cooperstown, ND passed away Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Cooperstown Medical Center –– Nursing Home. Lewis was born October 14, 1910 in Wahpeton, ND the son of Charles and Mary (Padzernik) Lawrence. He grew up in Wahpeton and was educated at Dwight #1. He married Ruth Ramona Jensen on October 11, 1939 in Wahpeton, ND. Together they had four children; Deanna, Pamela, Paul and Gary.

Lewis lived in and around Wahpeton where he was a bee keeper. Lewis enjoyed hunting and trapping, his trap line along the Red River was 14 miles long and he walked it everyday. Lewis moved to Burlington, IA where he became known as the honey man. Lewis later married Verna Pitt Priva on May 28, 1955 in Keokuk, IA. Lewis moved to Hannaford, ND before entering the Cooperstown Medical Center –– Nursing Home in July of 2000.

Surviving members of the family are his two daughters; Deanna (John) Holsteen of Woodland Park, CO and Pamela (Larry) Gruman of Hannaford, ND. Son Paul (Kaye Kramer) Lawrence of Goodland, KS. Stepson Gary Girtman of Burlington, IA. 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Half sister Rosie (John) Samuelson of Wahpeton, ND.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, wife Verna, son Gary, brother George, sister Lucille and 3 half brothers; Charlie, Clarence and Alfred.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 2:00PM in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, February 26, 2007 from 4PM to 8PM in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel and 1 hour prior to services on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Harris Cemetery, Dallas City, IL on Thursday, March 8, 2007 at 9:00 AM. Arrangements with the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Send a condolence here.
