Richard "Dick" Gibson

Mr. Richard “Dick” Gibson, 77, of Lakeland, Florida, formerly of Media, Illinois passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the Florida Presbyterian Health Care Center in Lakeland.

He was born May 10, 1929 in Media, Illinois, the son of Paul and Faye Lawyer Gibson.

He graduated from Media High School in 1946 and attended Monmouth College, graduating in 1950. He then left for Egypt and taught English at Assuit College in Assuit, Egypt. He returned the states and attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. After being ordained he returned to Cairo, Egypt where he worked in the mission field until his retirement in 1993 when he returned to the states and lived in LaHarpe, Illinois and Champaign, Illinois. In 2000 he moved to Lakeland.

He is survived by his sister, Rachel Neff of LaHarpe, two nephews, Michael Neff of Carthage, Illinois and Dallas Neff of LaHarpe, three nieces, Debra Neff of Morton, Illinois, Martha Kindred of Bloomington, Illinois and Denise Brown of LaHarpe.

Following cremation, memorial services will be held in Lakeland with burial in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lakeland. A memorial fund has been established for the United Presbyterian Church in Media, Illinois. Contributions may be sent to his sister, Rachel Neff, 201 South G Street, LaHarpe, IL 61450.
